What Being a Mother Has Taught Me

Before I became a mother, I thought love meant protecting my children from pain.

Now I know that sometimes being a mother means standing beside them when you can't take the pain away.

Motherhood has taught me that strength doesn't always look like having the answers. Sometimes it looks like staying awake through another sleepless night, advocating when you're exhausted, showing up even when your heart feels heavy, and loving with everything you have despite circumstances you never would have chosen.

I've learned that the strongest mothers aren't the ones who never struggle. They're the ones who keep going anyway.

I've sat in hospital rooms where time seemed to stand still. I've celebrated victories that others might overlook because I knew just how hard they were earned. I've experienced joy and unimaginable heartbreak, and I've discovered that both can exist in the same heart at the same time.

Those experiences changed me.

They made me slower to judge and quicker to offer grace. They reminded me that every parent you pass is carrying a story you may never know. The mom smiling at the grocery store may have just left a doctor's appointment. The dad laughing with his child may be silently worrying about tomorrow. We simply never know what another family is walking through.

That is why Ryatt's Wings exists.

It was born from a mother's love and a mother's promise that no family should have to face life's hardest moments feeling completely alone.

Whether it's providing comfort to a caregiver in the hospital, supporting a foster family caring for a medically fragile child, or reminding parents that someone sees them and cares, our mission is rooted in one simple belief:

Love shows up.

As mothers, fathers, grandparents, friends, and neighbors, we all have the opportunity to be that source of hope for someone else.

If today is a hard day, know that you're seen.

If today is a good day, hold your loved ones a little closer.

And if you're looking for a way to make a difference, remember that even the smallest act of kindness can remind another parent that they are not walking this journey alone.

From one mother to another, thank you for caring. 💙
